A little history lesson will explain most of your question.

The reason America didn’t start playing soccer is because the British loved soccer. And back in the day (LONG time ago), Americans wanted to do everything opposite to what the British did. The British played football (soccer), Americans made their own (American Football). The British played cricket, Americans made their own (Baseball). And over time, especially late 20th century, soccer started kicking in a little bit in America (Major League Soccer). That’s why American Football, Baseball are so popular here in the United States instead of soccer.

off topic: same reason why Americans didn’t standardize the metric system. They wanted to create their own system. Everything started fresh in young America.

because in other countries, the other sport that they play is soccer so they take it seriosely. and in the us there are other sports that have been there for a long time so its hard for people to change.

Most haven’t really given it a chance. I didn’t either, I would watch about 5 minutes, and change because to me nothing was happening/it was boring. But that changed one summer when I was stuck in a small english town with nothing to do but watch the world cup. The first couple of matches were painful, but by the 3rd I started to appreciate the game and within a week I liked it. I think most americans would grow to like it also if they gave it a chance, but with 950 channels on their satellite tvs, there are only seconds to grab the typical american’s attention.

Daylong: We lost the world baseball classic to Japan, yet baseball seems to be popular here….

Because the US only like sports that no else really cares about like American Football, baseball and basketball, only the US can have a world series when the only teams in it are from the US, basically the US can’t handle a sport where they are not the best.

The only reason I can see is that we, in the US, like sports where you are either the winner or the loser. Maybe it is a flaw in our collective idealism and culture but we can never have play a sport where the game (or match) ends in a 0-0 tie; even though there have been Football (American football) games that have ended in ties.
